That's "Doctor Ossman" to you, soldier.
Ossman to Mel

Dr. Anthony Ossman is the main antagonist of Avatar: The Game for the Nintendo DS. He is an expert within the Avatar program, but he also researches Pandoran animals. More specifically, he is making great progress in finding ways to alter their behavior.

Background[]

He has a daughter named Molly Ossman, who is in a coma. It's revealed that this is the reason he came to Pandora and joined the Avatar program: to find some sort of cure for his daughter's condition. Molly is able to walk around in her avatar body, but when she disconnects from her avatar she lies still in her Link Chamber.

Ossman learned how to speak the Na'vi language.

Avatar: The Game[]

Ossman was undertaking research into unobtanium and Pandoran animals, and during a flight over Greenhome, a machine fell from his Samson. Nok discovered it and later met Ossman when he landed his Dragon Assault Ship on top of the Tawkami Clan's Hometree. Nok interrupted a conversation between Ossman and Mel and was surprised upon finding Ossman could speak his language. Ossman ordered Nok to leave, saying he would control the willows. Nok refused to flee, calling them the intruders. Ossman left, leaving behind an AMP suit to fight Nok.

Ossman fled to Site 32, his base in the Skycliffs, but Nok gave pursuit. In the link room, Ossman said Molly is late for her disconnect, but she is angered that he has been caging banshees. He tells her she should not question things she does not understand. Molly's avatar lies on the bed, and Ossman is relieved he sees signs of motor functions on her real body. When Ossman discovers that the base has been compromised, he flees with his daughter in a Samson to the base in the Distant Forest.

In the forest, Molly argues with her father, saying she is glad the banshees are free and that he got what he deserved. He instead replies he is disappointed with her, saying she does not comprehend the nature of his work. He leaves to go perform more research into the willow trees. Nok chased him to the base in the Distant Forest and eventually to the Highcrags.

In the cave, Ossman tells Nok that the willow trees conceal a secret which is why he must research them. Ossman turns sympathetic for a moment, saying they both wish to protect their families, but after Nok mentions Molly's name, Ossman blames him for warping his daughter's views. Ossman turns homicidal and pilots a large drilling machine to fight Nok, but Nok overcomes it. Before leaving in a Samson, an infuriated Ossman says Nok will regret his actions.

In the Hammerhead Graveyard, Ossman manages to trap Nok, and Molly is severely injured while trying to rescue him. Thankfully, Lungoray is nearby and takes Molly away to be treated back at his hut. Ossman flees, leaving his daughter behind.

Ossman and his thanator

He retreats to his laboratory deep within Blightground, but Nok pursues once again. Ossman even sends one of the controlled thanators after him, but his own invention electrocuted him and sent him into a coma.

Trivia[]

  • A deleted Pandorapedia entry from the console version of The Game mentions Ossman: "The neural suppression collar was created at the RDA's Torukä Na'rìng rehabilitation complex to neutralize attacks by Pandora's beasts. RDA scientists, led by Dr. Ossman, developed the collars in response to the overwhelming presence of viperwolves in the Black Perdition sector. The collars mute an animal's instinctive reactions to stimuli by allowing the collar regulator to set new parameters. A viperwolf with the collar will not attack RDA troops, but can easily be ordered to attack any threat in the area. The RDA has successfully applied the collar to other types of Pandora's beasts, with the exception of the leonopteryx."

Memorable quotes[]

  • Molly... I know you can't hear me. I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am. I never meant for any of this to happen. I only wanted to restore your health! But the RDA demanded so much of me... I can't take back what I've done. It was all for you... But now - now those stubborn Na'vi are ruining everything! I won't let them do it! They won't take away the only thing I have left - I promise you that! Those Na'vi will regret crossing me... with their last breaths, they'll regret it.
