Don't know if anyone has posted it before, but it was news to me. This was way back in May 2010; a photography crew put together an advertising "photo-story" for Xishuangbanna, China, using blue-painted people and Photoshop. They surreptiously called it "Alianya".
Interesting, if weird. The photo-story has since been removed, but someone thought to make a mirror.[1]

Some small updates about the sequels:
- Water will be heavily involved in Avatar 2.
- There currently is a lot of R&D going on, presumably (among many other things) to get the mo-cap technology fitted for underwater shooting.
- James Cameron is on his 2500 acres farm in the Wairarapa region in New Zealand which he bought and moved to in fall 2012, making good progress on writing the sequels. (photos, map)
- Judging by a recent interview excerpt, he seems quite self-confident:
Do you ever feel the pressure of topping yourself? And do you have a release date you can share with us for "Avatar 2 and 3?"
- Cameron: "Pressure, no. It's a little daunting because sequels are always tricky. You have to be surprising and stay ahead of audience anticipation. At the s…

Hi, everyone. =) I know, it's been a very long time since I've been present on this Wiki. I got very involved with my Wiki, the Adele Wiki and running that, and I am very proud of it. Following its success, I was offered another administrative position at the P!nk Wiki, which I happily accepted. Unfortunately, because of this, it is uncertain how often I will be able to be here on this Wiki, but this Wiki is how I first got affiliated with Wikia and is definitely a very special Wiki for me, so I will not be forgetting this Wiki or officially leaving it anytime soon; just thought I'd clarify why I wasn't on the Wiki as much.
Second of all, I am very happy to see that there are so many new faces on the Wiki. I'm glad to see that the Wiki is s…

Stumbled across this document today. http://www.scribd.com/doc/116315083/Cameron
As part of the lawsuit between Cameron and Morawaski (which just concluded in Cameron's favour), James Cameron put out this declaration on how the film was original. It goes right back to his childhood and explains where all his early ideas came from; makes for some interesting reading if you stick with it. Shame the attached images aren't on there, I would have loved to see the 40 year old sketch of his that became the concept for the Pandoran jungle.

So after 3 years I come crawling back. But it's not what you think.
Somehow, after watching Avatar so many times while it was in cinemas, I built up an irrational fear of not wanting to watch it at home just in case it wasn't as immersive and I accidentally broke the spell it had on me. Thus began 3 years of owning multiple copies, merchandise and posters but being completely unable to put the DVD in the player.
How wrong I was. My New Years resolution to finally watch it has payed of and it won't be long before I double my views :-)
Proud to be part of the amazing Avatar community (I genuinely missed some of you guys but was ashamed of my unfaithfullness) and look forward to more of it. And maybe one day afford the trip to the US for Avatar…

As you will be well aware, a lot of videoing of AvatarMeet 2012 took place. Many things, thoughts and imaginings about Avatar are around my head, about its story, its characters, its content, its messages, its elements, its components, its universe, etc.. (among many other things, of course), and many of these imaginings of Avatar are more elements, components, characters, places, stories, etc. that I have created and that would fit nicely in Avatar universe and could be added there. Some of these things are ordered in lists of things that are in Pandora (animals, plants, weapons, vehicles, features Na'vi etc.), and now I am going to present some of them, with brief descriptions:
Pandoran Fauna
- Brute: Similar to gorilla, but much larger and with four arms, which is common in all the land animals of Pandora.

Happy Avatar Day and Happy 3rd Avatar Release Anniversary, Avatar Wiki friends and Avatar fans and geeks!! :D
It's been three years since Avatar was released in theatres and we're still loving and enjoying it and all its related with it, doing everything about Avatar, like learning Na'vi, writing fan-fictions, collecting merchandising, listening to its soundtrack, playing Avatar games, drawing pictures, and watching Avatar more than once, and much more; I hope we still do, while waiting arrival of the sequels, and all of that.
I hope we still love and enjoy Avatar many more years, this forum lasts, and I get all my Avatar geek objectives I want to reach.

Hey hey, tis Cadellin.
As some of the more frequent users here will know, I'm currently in the middle of studying an animation degree down here in Falmouth University. One of the modules this year is animation technology, and for the essay portion I will be doing...
Avatar, of course.
We actually have our own motion capture studio in the university, which anyone can book out. I'm going to get to play with that over the next few months, and will also have to do a whole load of research on Avatar's "Volume", the studio and set up that they used. Some of the other people in my year have tracked cameras in the same way the film did, although not with flashy screens or anything.
It was Avatar that really inspired me to pursue animation as a career …

Hey guys! Okay so over the last couple days its been Hobbit mania with the world premiere of the first of third respected Hobbit films due out over the span of three years; 2012, 2013 & 2014 in New Zealand. I was just on the IMDB and I saw the rating on the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey page and it said 9.3/10 which is higher then Avatar AND The Dark Knight Rises. I'm only reading The Hobbit now after so many years of neglecting it only because I'm eager to see the movie. So I was wondering if The Hobbit trilogy will pose a threat to the Avatar trilogy/quartet in terms of box office grossing. If the Avengers could get to almost 2 billion dollars then so can The Hobbit. This is Peter Jackson who is partially responsible for the Adventures o…

Here are the reasons why James Cameron's Avatar is my most favourite movie, why I see it and I will do it thousands of times and why I'm such a big geek of it.
- Its gender is what I like the most: science fiction, but besides it has everything: action, fantasy, adventure, romance, drama, humor, war with military contents and themes, etc.
- It's an awesome movie with an original, perfect and well thought and structured story, charged with action scenes and with epic and spectacular wars and battles, love, dramatic and emotive scenes, interesting and cool things, etc., rich in details, with all its elements, components and designs very cool and beautiful (the universe which is set in, the world of Pandora, the Na'vi, Eywa, characters, creatures, …

As you may have already noticed in Wikia's announcement, there will be some changes regarding wiki navigation and page layout which will be implemented on October 3.
The header bar that contains the Wikia logo will take the width of the whole browser window. There will also be a new small gap between this header and our wiki for a better visual separation. The width of all wiki pages will be slightly increased by 30 pixels, resulting in 10 pixels wider articles. For Avatar Wiki, this means that our background image needs an update to fit in with the new width. I already took care of that. The updated version is ready to be put in place when Wikia deploys the change.
You can already preview these changes (except the updated background) by goi…

Entertainment Weekly just posted this...
[1]
I'm tempted to say that it might just be hearsay until I see a video, but entertainment weekly is relatively respectable.
This is the quote from Cameron: "We can have Chinese Na’vi; [and in the live-action sequences] we can also have Chinese actors who speak English in the film.”
“We are projecting a future in Avatar, and if you project that future out, it is logical that there would be a number of Chinese amongst the contingent on Pandora.”
Lets not forget though that the original actor for Neytiri in the ILM Prototype of Avatar was none other than Korean-American Lost actor Yunjin Kim.
When they say chinese Na'vi I'm assuming they mean that they will have an oriental flare to them rather than actually…

My god... I was the first to catch a bit of news! Okay, it was a fairly minor, but here we go...
Long story short, Elijah Schkeiban, author of "Bats and Butterflies", tried to claim that Avatar infringed on his story. After the lengthy court battle it was finally thrown out; the judge ruled that Shckeiban's book was "a straightforward children's story that lacks the depth and complexity of the moods expressed in Avatar".
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/sep/18/james-cameron-avatar-copright-case?newsfeed=true
I did take a look into "bats and butterflies" to see how legitimate a claim it was.
"In a fleeting moment of wizardry, Joshua is whisked away to Altair, a strange planet populated by warring factions of wicked bats and wondrous butterfl…

During another interview while promoting his Titanic 3D Blu-ray in northern Europe, James Cameron told about the current state of the next two Avatar sequels. He said that he would put himself into his “top secret writing cave” to get both scripts done until the end of the year, which he describes as a "daunting writing task".
Story-wise he only said this:
“I’m writing it as separate stories that have an overall arc inclusive of the first film. I don’t want to suffer from the ‘Matrix 2′ problem, where it just ends, like, what the hell? It’s gotta end. There’s gotta be a sense of conclusion, but also a sense that the journey will continue, and that’s a fine line.”Pre-production is planned to start in January. So, previous stories about the pr…

James Cameron gave some new pieces of information in a recent interview about the fourth Avatar movie. In the article linked below, there is a video of the interview. These are the main points:- It will be a prequel.
- It will most likely deal with the colonization of Pandora, the more than three decades before the events in Avatar.
- It will not be shot back to back with the other two movies.
- Cameron currenty only has an idea, but no written script, yet.
He also mentioned that he is still at writing Avatar 2 and 3 and that they refined their production process to reduce complexity during the past two years to have more room for creativity.

Apparently, the exclusive bundling contract with Panasonic eventually runs out, and anyone can see Avatar the way it is meant to be seen. JC does not mention an actual date in the video. On German Amazon, it is listed with an October 26 release date, but Amazon's dates are quite often not very reliable. -
James Cameron recently confirmed that Avatar 2 will most likely not be ready until at least 2015... This is somewhat depressing, being that that's still another three years away. Apparently, he is also still in the process of working on the script, which means that whatever Sigourney Weaver was "quoted" as saying about filming for three sequels back-to-back-to-back in fall of 2012 was probably false... This is very disappointing... Anyways, if you want to read more, see it all for yourselves here: http://www.hitfix.com/news/avatar-2-wont-be-ready-until-at-least-2015-says-james-cameron.

Hey, everyone. So, I was looking at the Wikipedia article for Avatar and I noticed something peculiar in the section about sequels that I hadn't seen/read/heard before ... James Cameron himself strongly hinted that the humans would return as the main antagonists in future Avatar sequels? Apparently he stated:
Now, whether this is true or not is a mystery to me, because I had never heard this before.... I believe it was kind of implied. Apparently he also stated that the first sequel would directly follow the events of the first film. While this was stated in 2010 and this obviously could have changed, this is still pretty interesting ... What do you guys think

Hey everyone, I just wanted to see if any other users on the wiki had checked out the James Cameron's Avatar Answers Wiki in a while. The main reason I'm asking is... well, there's 2 reasons:
- There are very few answerers and a lot of questions to be answered.
- There appears to be a glitch ... I went to answer 2 questions on it today and when I clicked "Save", it erased what I had and returned to the question before it had been answered.
Anyways, just curious. Thanks, everyone!! :)

There is hardly a lot to actually report here outside of what the headline includes other than to say Sigourney Weaver has confirmed with Showbiz 411 that James Cameron will begin shooting Avatar 2, Avatar 3 and Avatar 4 all at the same time, all with her, and starting this fall. As far as anything more, Weaver tells Roger Friedman at Showbiz, "I just show up."
This seems to continue the thought Cameron relayed to the "New York Times" back in early May, telling the paper, "I'm in the Avatar business. Period. That's it. Hi,
Over the past couple of months we have been developing and testing a related videos module on some wikis like Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Halo. During these tests we have been tracking the number of video plays as well as collecting community feedback. We are now ready to expand the rollout to the rest of the site, and we are starting with wikis that there are the most videos for - which includes your wiki!
The videos we have are fully licensed from video partners we have developed relationships with. They include videos such as trailers, famous movie/TV clips, walkthroughs and behind the scenes interviews. We currently have video content from Screenplay and are working to create partnerships with other vendors, including Hulu, soon. …

Okay so the Avengers has been out for about a month now in the States and has surpassed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. The amount of money that the Avengers has been ranking in as decreased over as few weeks so its good to say that Titanic and Avatar are currently safe as the highest grossing films of all time. So will the Avengers even get to the 2 billion dollar mark? I don't think so now. I was reading comments on the page I was reading and people are still dissing Avatar saying that 'It's a rip off of other films and books and stuff' and blah blah blah. I know that this isn't related to Avatar at all I just wanted to post this in case some you haven't noticed. I was just on imdB (Internet Movie Database) and Marvel's new film 'The Avengers' has been out just 2 weeks arund the world and it is on its on its way to beating both JC's Avatar and Titanic. For Titanic, it took a year for it to reach 1.7 Billion Dollars while Avatar took just 7 weeks to beat it by $1 Billion. Which raises the question: will it take just 3 weeks for the Avengers to beat two of our favourite films? I think it will. I know that its been 3 years since Avatar's release but I was really hoping that the record would remain Avatar's until the release of Avatar 2 in 2015/16. What do you guys think?

In the movie Parker Selfridge got what he deserved and was kicked off of Pandora, I do wonder though if another punishment might have been apropriate to. Being the head of RDA Selfridge was always worried about what the shareholders back on Earth thought and was largely insulated from the consequences of what his decisions were doing outside of the base. While having to go back to Earth and face his peers are bad enough for him, I think it would have been even harder on him if he were not allowed to go back to Earth and was forced to stay on Pandora.
For one thing, it is not like he would be able to cause any trouble by himself, he would be at the mercy of the staff and the avatars in the human facilities. Another thing is it is not like R…

When the Na'vi salute each other in this fashion it transcends physical sight of the person. It literally means seeing into the other person's soul. Believe it or not it is very customary to say that the eyes are the windows to the soul and it does have some credence when one look into the eyes of despots and criminals anyone can clearly see and feel the darkness that dwells inside such individuals.
It has also been used in films and TV shows for quite sometime one example would be the TV show Buffy the vampire slayer. When Spike got a soul and stopped being a soulless fiend Anja immediately recognized he was changed so much that she says the words "I can see you!" even though she had seen Spike physically many times before.

Speaking at a screening for ‘Titanic 3D’ producer Jon Landau who has worked with Cameron on both projects confirmed it would be a long four year wait before we return to the alien world of Pandora. This would give the film a release date of around 2016, seven years after the original. Another thought has ran across my mind. I was wondering if Pandora could have an alternate name, what I mean by that is the Na'vi's name for their world. Now in project 880 it was said that the Na'vi did have a name for thier world which was the same name they had for forest(obviously a lot was changed from then to when the movie was finalized) but I would seem reasonable that the Na'vi would have the concept of "their world" even though they are neolithic due to the fact that not only are they "connected to their moon" but also the fact that they should have a pretty good "range" due to their use of ikran and realatively short distances between land masses. I bring this up because we as humans have a decent tradition of trying to name thi…

I was thinking, I'm kind of suprised there was no "media" presence that I know of on Pandora.
Now I know it would have been in the RDA's favor to not have too much of a "third party" presence on the moon, but you would think that there would still be strong enough pressure from Earth for them to have allowed at least a few journalists to tag along( even if restricted quite a bit). Assuming the media in the 2150's is like the media of today you would think that they would be chomping at the bit to have a few reporters on the field, I mean with the situation most people on Earth are in, I'm sure they would like to view as much about Pandora as possible.
