New Avatar Concept Art

Concept Artist Seth Engstrom has just released stunning new concept pieces on his blog from Avatar! I appreciate the rough looser development pieces that we don’t usually see, here’s where we can see the thinking of the the director and the concept artist coming together. Some great finished pieces as well including the city streets of future Earth depicting a world of apparent wheel chaired frustration.

Thanks Seth! -JDV

Sorry that I don't know how to have the pics show up in their original form. If anyone can edit this to make it better, I will appreciate it. Thanks. Ghaziya

Avatar Theme Park Attraction Update

Here's an update on the Avatar theme park attraction:

As we previously reported, James Cameron’s Avatar has inspired a series of Disney amusement park adventures that should be ready in time for Avatar 2's release in 2014.

Now Cameron has spoken to the L.A. Times about Disney's upcoming plans for the rides, which are still obviously in the early stages.

However, Cameron confirmed he wants to do a flight attraction of some kind, "[as] flying is a big part of the movie."

"One of the things people liked the most at test screenings was going up into the floating mountains in the flying sequences," he noted.

Cameron has also said there may be creatures incorporated into the attractions that we won't see until the second and third movies. He add…

A message to the admins.

As you've already noticed, there's been a lot of vandalism by anons as of late, and I'm sure it must be as frustrating for you as it is for everyone else involved on the wiki. All they ever do is abuse this site with their vandalism and stupidity, and I'm curious whether it would be right to ban all anons from editing without creating an account.

It has never made sense to me as to why people are allowed to edit anonymously on a wiki without having to create their own account, but that's not why I made this blog, I merely feel that their abusing this wiki is not something any of us should have to put up with and by banning all anons from editing so as to prevent further vandalism, they would have to resort to creating an account of their ow…

AVATAR 2: Sigourney Weaver says she thinks she will be back

Sigourney Weaver says that she will be back for AVATAR 2 and from all she says it makes sense. If you have seen AVATAR then you know that there are reasons why she wouldn't be back, but there are also reasons why she COULD come back.

"Don't worry, I will be back," she said of Avatar 2, confirming the hint that she dropped nearly a year ago, "Jim [Cameron] says no one ever dies in science fiction. He's told me the stories for the next two movies and I have to say that they're absolutely wonderful and there's a real treat in store. Now we just have to make them."

Weaver also said that they have plans to shoot AVATAR 2 and 3 back to back starting next year which perfectly fits into what we currently know.

Something I was wondering about...

So... I was watching Avatar the other day, trying my best to pick out little details and things that I missed the other 400 times I've seen the movie, and I found something I was curious about. I hope maybe someone can answer me or come up with a clever solution or whatever. :P

It's about that pretty sparkle outfit Neytiri wears when she takes Jake to the Tree Of Voices. Even though she is still wearing it when she and Jake return to Hometree the next day, she is seen in her regular outfit during the next scene. Hometree is destroyed, the Omaticaya flee to the Tree Of Souls, it leads you to believe everything belonging to the Na'vi was either destroyed or left behind. However, in the last scene of the movie, Neytiri is wearing that same spa…

Avatar 2 Trailer

Hey guys! As excited as you guys, probably are, the title of this blog is kind of a lie. There is obviously no Avatar 2 trailer yet, as filming has not even begun on the film yet. This is a hilarious fan-made parody of Avatar. It includes parodies from several films, including Harry Potter, Star Wars, and The Lord of the Rings. I think you guys will get a kick outta this! :) Although it's slightly offensive to the Na'vi, and a little disturbing... You guys will like this, though! :) Just enjoy!

So, tell me what you think! Is this as funny as I think, or is this one of the stupidest things you have ever seen, or both, or what??? Your opinions matter! :)

Frustrating bug with the wiki....

Hey, guys....AA here....(But I guess you already knew that....Duh!) ok anyway.....I have this problem with the wiki and I want to know how and if I can fix it and also if any other of you guys has it....So, yesterday I posted some comments (After many years of being absent....) and I saw in the wiki activity that I had replies....However, when I went to see the replies, like a normal user, there were not there.....And it kept saying that my comment was posted one hour ago, even when I waited for the whole day...It's like the wiki is stuck and not refreshing....for some reason....Today, I checked my comments again and it still says that they were posted one hour ago..... How can this be? Have you ever had that issue?

Zoe Saldana: Avatar 2 "Will be beautiful"

Okay, so I was five days behind. I haven't seen anyone else post it though, so here we go.

Zoe Saldana has proudly proclaimed that she loves the Avatar sequel - even though she hasn't seen it.

The actress is set to reprise her role as blue-skinned Neyteri in James Cameron's two proposed follow-ups and insisted she would say yes, no matter what.

"I already know that I'm going to love it," she told The Playlist.

"It's going to be beautiful, and it's going to be great, but he's excited. He just wants to get the script to where it needs to be before he can say, 'OK, this is worthy of shooting'."

Zoe - who next stars in Colombiana - has not heard any word or seen the filmmaker for months.

"The last time I saw him was a couple of months ago for dinner…

Avatar MMORPG my POV

Hello my fellow avatar fans. This is my blog about the idea of an MMORPG for Avatar. My qualification to consider that i am training to make video games and have taken classes about the theory of Gaming.

Estimate cost a month to play would be 10 to 15$

Pros:

  • Fresh and new
  • Has drawn already a large fan based
  • Large untapped world for imagination

Cons:

  • Can it survive a 5 year wait to keep fans back in and hold out for a long time
  • Expenses for millions to create and millions a month to maintence
  • Heavy compition. Like it or not 2 to 3 mmos appear every few years. So unless it offers something the others dont have it will result in some bad money situation. Past Games like age of cohan i think, warhammer Aion has shown that mmos not handled right fail fa…

Sam Worthington Offers Avatar Sequels Update

I might be a bit late for this, and this is something we already know. But considering there are no exciting Avatar news right now, I'd like to share this article posted yesterday by ComingSoon.net

Sam Worthington, star of the new film The Debt, told reporters that writer-director James Cameron is already at work on an atlas which will help him expand the world of Avatar for its forthcoming sequels.

"I know he's nutting out like a bible at the moment," Worthington said today, "[It's] sort of like a precursor of Avatar 1, to just get himself back into the world and the mindset and the characters."

Worthington indicated that he's waiting for the call from Cameron on when to start, but he's excited about the story.

"Jim's the person who will tell m…

Announced by James Cameron and Jon Landau, the hire signifies Lightstorm's commitment, in collaboration with Twentieth Century Fox, to building the franchise and brand of AVATAR beyond the traditional licensing and merchandising avenues.

Cameron commented, “Anticipating the exponential growth of the Avatar universe, we looked for someone who could lead a team that will cement Avatar as a world class brand across all platforms and markets. Plot for Avatar II and III

Hello again to all the great people of the wiki! I have had a great time making these blogs and it's always awesome to hear what everyone has to say about each topic I've brought up. I do, however, feel that my blogs have reached a climax and after this blog, I will be done with this account and will "retire" from "blog making" for good. Of course, you can still look up the user page, I just won't be using it anymore. I will be finished. I have enjoyed the many conversations I have had with the likes of Ghaziya and Tsu'tey te Rongloa Ateyitan (the member of the wiki, not the character lol). So let's get on with the blog, shall we?

As I'm sure everyone is aware of by now, the two back-to-back Avatar sequels will be released in 2014 and 2015 …

2012 Here We Come! Uniting the Clans!

Updated: August 24, 2011

PLEASE NOTE: EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE - including name, place, and date.

After the great success of the two meetups in Seattle this year (Tree of Souls in June and LearnNa'vi in July), we are excited to announce that we are planning a multi-clan gathering in 2012. The unofficial name is "UC 2012 Uniting the Clans". We are once again returning to Seattle, WA, where the Avatar exhibition will still be on display.

This will be a great opportunity to meet people from around the world who have a similar passion for Avatar and to experience events that will be centered around Avatar.

The planning committee represents the interests of all of the forums and is not run by one forum. There are liaisons from every major fo…

Avatar Wiki's 2nd Birthday!

It was a Monday, July 20th 2009 when I clicked the create wiki button. Now, after two years of intense work (from both users and admins), we’ve managed to create the largest Avatar encyclopedia ever, editing over 644 articles and establishing a solid user base. It has been two years on which I’ve met new people, and on which fans from all over the world have met to contribute and talk about the movie event of the past decade: Avatar.

In these two years, many things have been achieved. We’ve got thousands of visits, ranked among Wikia’s best movie wikis, managed to upload almost 5,000 images, and above everything, the Avatar Wiki has become a Home Tree for our users, for our friends. We’d like to thank our amazing admin group, who has worked i…

Missing Music, In Sndtrk, But Not Film?

There's a section of the Avatar Soundtrack, track #13: War, that i can't find it's film counterpart for.

[1]

Now, the section in mind appears around 7:00, and continues for about 20 seconds. I listened to the soundtrack while watching the battle, but it doesn't seem to sync up quite right. I'm hoping for my fellow contributors to help me with this, as I've exhausted every possibilty. I even came across a version of "WAR" labeled: "film version", but it too has this particular piece of musik, just not in the same place, as there is a small change of score near the begining.

Old News, But New To Us Maybe?

James Cameron: ‘Avatar’ sequels will generate jobs

- The Daily Caller Alyssa Moody - The Daily Caller – Wed Jun 22, 9:52 am ET

James Cameron’s films have had tremendous monetary success worldwide, but the director has decided to film the sequels to his 2009 mega-hit, “Avatar,” right here in the U.S. The director hopes that shooting in the U.S. will provide employment options for out-of-work Americans, particular visual effects artists.

The movies, due out in December 2014 and December 2015, will create jobs for struggling artists who are rarely offered such prestigious positions due to such technically-advanced films typically being shot overseas.

“It’s absolutely going to generate jobs. There is a plethora of visual effects artists and a lot …

Similarities between the Na'vi in Avatar and the Elves in The Lord of the Rings!

I'm a big fan of both James Cameron's Avatar and The Lord of the Rings. They are both fantasy and they take me to beautiful worlds with fantastical creatures. Ever since I saw the first trailer for Avatar,I've always thought of the Na'vi as very elven and that the Na'vi reminded me of elves because the Na'vi are tall and have long hair like the Elves. To get to the my point,I just want to say I see alot of similarities between the Na'vi and the Elves. They are both tall and slender with long hair. They both use bows and arrows. Their language structure is similar, for example in both languages the verbs come at the end of sentences. They both love nature and respect it and have spiritual connections with nature. They both love trees and hav…

...on Love, and a regretful absence

Hello everyone, old and new. It has been a while since my last post, and for that I'm sorry. Sorry mostly because of the joy I get from writing, but returning to the keyboard has never felt so good. Thank you for the birthday wishes (you know who you are) and to those new to the site, welcome to my blog. I hope that my time away from the keyboard has not dulled my ability, especially in light of my topic for this blog. Afterall, I'll need all faculties to take on this topic: Love.

James Cameron is the master of action they say. Indeed, some call him the father of modern action films. (Does that make Michael Bay the bastard stepchild?) However at his core, his movies are enduring, endearing, and timeless love stories, that touch us in ways …

one of the saddest parts in the movie and i mean honestly i just wish that he didn't die it was so emotionol knew that he was going to die at the end but they won anyway even with the help of EYWA he was either going to suffer and die or just bleed to death but i think taking his life was the right thing to do i know we may hear his name in Avatar 2 probably they may tell stories about him to the na'vi kids but Tsu'tey was my favorite character and seeing him die at the end just mad me upset because i really wanted to see hime in Avatar 2 but like i said we may hear his name again

Question About Tan Jala

Hey guys! (Yet again...) I had a quick question for you and was hoping one of you could answer it. In Avatar: The Game, Tan Jala is the leader of the Tipani Clan, and Sänume is the clan's Tsahik. Does this mean that Tan Jala and Sänume are mated? I thought that a Na'vi clan's leader and it's Tsahik were mated for life, as Eytukan and Mo'at were, and Neytiri and Tsu'tey were supposed to be. If so, should we change the Tan Jala and Sänume articles? Just curious.... Thanks! :)

Cameron: Avatar Sequels Are Not a Trilogy

Only James Cameron, the man with back to back biggest movies of all time, could get away with saying something like this. He’s currently writing two movies called Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 says they’re not a trilogy. Three films, same continuing story, not a trilogy. Okay James, whatever you say.

In a brand new interview Cameron said that he’s still writing both films but that they’re not exactly a trilogy, more of a “overall character arc.” Read the exact quote and more updates on the films after the jump.

Fox News (Via Coming Soon) caught up with the Oscar-winning King of the World and asked him for the latest on the follow-ups to Avatar, the biggest box office hit in history.

They then asked if he was feeling any pressure after the incredible…

Just curious

but am I the only one disappointed that we wern't given the opportunity to watch Avatar in split screen, from one side, the movie appears in its normality while on the other side, we see the actors performing the Na'vi characters? Instead, we only get to see a certain number of scenes from the film where the actors (Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Laz Alonso, CCH Pounder, Wes Studi, Sigourney Weaver) are playing their respective roles before the CGI was added. While this was great, it was really a shame there wasn't an option to watch the film like this all the way through in the Collector's Edition.

Landau says converted 2D films should be labeled as such

SINGAPORE – Avatar producer Jon Landau is calling for grading of converted “fake” 3D and truth in advertising to weed out cheats -- get ready for 2.4D and 2.8D. And Steve Jobs might want start banging out the next generation of iPad 3D.

Attending the inaugural edition of ScreenSingapore to speak at a 3D seminar, Landau told The Hollywood Reporter that even for the converted Titanic slated in 2012, the best he and director James Cameron can do is 2.8D.

“Like colorization, it’s never true color; a conversion will never be true 3D. You don’t have all of that information. So you’re cheating. How good can you fake it? The more time you have, the better it can be. [For Titanic in 3D,] we’re creating an illusion of 3D to begin with, so if we can cr…

Avatar-inspired Interstellar Space Flight Documentary

The title says it all. I found this video about interstellar space flight and the problem of efficient propulsion that has yet to be solved.

Transcript of the video:

Pandora is the idyllic blue world featured in the movie Avatar. Its location is a real place: Alpha Centauri, the nearest star to our Sun and the most likely destination for our first journey beyond the solar system.

Remarkably, it's anti-matter, the science fiction fuel of choice that could take us there. Normally, it's only created in powerful jets that roar out of black holes. We can now produce small quantities in Earth-bound particle colliders. Will we journey out only to plunder other worlds? Or will we come in peace? The answer may depend on how we see Earth at that time i…

'Avatar' sequels to be solar-powered

James Cameron's search for a new home to house his Lightstorm Entertainment production company has finally ended — and, as expected, he's chosen a studio with a commitment to environmental design.

The director and his business partner, Jon Landau, recently announced that the MBS Media Campus in Southern California (formerly known as Manhattan Beach Studios) will serve as the setting for filming the next two “Avatar” sequels.

The five-year lease includes 115,000-square-feet of soundstage and production office space on the 22-acre campus. The studio’s environmental awareness was also integral in attracting Cameron, who intends to make the production of the films carbon neutral.

According to the owners, MBS features “an aggressive water conserva…

Visual, Musical(like FreakyTy's Furry drawings or Azaelius's score he's working on) but the main focus is literature. There's a place to share poetry, short stories, both in all kinds of genres. AND, there's a reservation-based category where a member asks a moderator for a board. In that asking must be some of the work the member hopes to post in that board. Brazil approves huge Amazon power plant

BRASILIA — Over the strong objections of indigenous groups, activists and environmentalists, Brazilian authorities gave a green light Wednesday to what will be the world's third largest hydroelectric plant and dam.

The massive $11 billion project is to be built in western Para state, along the Xingu river in Brazil's Amazon rainforest.

Once completed, the Belo Monte plant will generate some 11,200 megawatts of energy, equivalent to about 11 percent of the power currently produced in Brazil.

Indigenous communities, ecologists and the Catholic Church have spent more than a year campaigning against the dam, which will flood an area of 516 square kilometers (198 square miles) along the banks of the Xingu.

Construction of the dam will displace 16,0…

‘Avatar 2’: The James Cameron sequel finds a home

The sequel to “Avatar” will dive beneath the oceans of Pandora and perhaps visit neighboring moons as well, but the 2014 film will also be imprinted with the soul of Southern California, according to Richard Verrier of the Los Angeles Times business section. Verrier took a tour of the new home of the “Avatar” filmmaking team and its ambitions to follow up a film that pulled in a historic $2.8 billion in worldwide box office. Here’s an excerpt from Verrier’s report …

Over the din of buzz saws and beeping forklifts, producer Jon Landau can barely contain his excitement as he strides into a 45-foot-tall sound stage that is barren except for workers building sets for a commercial shoot. “We’re taking over these two buildings here. We’ll have 20…

I havent seen this brought up so here I will say it.

Right now avatar is planned to be a three film right?

The problem is that when the dvd of the special edition of avatar 3 (insert future name) How do we keep the franchise alive and last for future generations like star wars did? I know Avatar is amazing, but I think we should look far down the road to ensure Avatar franchise doesn't fade awade. Any ideas?

One idea is MMOG

pros

gamers will go to the avatar and become connected

awesome placer for fans here to gather

cons

MMOG have a lot of compitition so avatar mmmo may be lost in the tides

Video games and movies haven't really met eye to eye unless they have time to grow.

Jake's ikran before taming the Toruk

Given that once a Na'vi (or an avatar in Jake's case) bonds with an ikran (banshee), they're bonded for life so since we see Jake release the Toruk after the RDA get on the shuttle back to Earth, we can assume that he'll get the ikran back, that is of course if Jake ever manages to find and reunite with it because we never see it again after Jake becomes the sixth Toruk Makto.

While I'm sure we'll likely not notice much difference, does anyone think the ikran will return to Jake in the sequel given the bond that connects them, or is Jake more likely to just make tsahaylu with another banshee? If that is at all possible.

Doomsday

Hey guys! Now, I know this blog post has nothing to do with the Wiki, but we're running out of stuff to talk about, and this is a good topic for a blog post, even though it's slightly delayed.

There is a rumor started by 89-year-old Christian radio broadcaster Harold Camping saying that today, May 21st, will be the end of the world as we know it. Supposedly, his first two predictions that the world would end were incorrect. He blamed their failure on mathematical errors. However, he also predicted a Rapture, and that 3% of Earth's population would be swept up into the sky towards Heaven. He also predicted that exactly 5 months later (October 21st) would be the end of the universe. Now, I need your guys' opinion, but here are reasons that h…

Tsu'tey: A question about his ear.

Has anyone else noticed as I have that there is a small portion of his ear that is missing? It's a shame that there is no mention of how this happened which leaves us only to surmise that it was the cause of a gunshot during a past battle with RDA troops or maybe an animal bit off a piece of his ear during a hunt.

Then again, it's the same thing with Quaritch, he has three scars on his face likely caused by a viperwolf as the wiki claims but the movie never gives any explanation as to how he got the scars.
