During the intense Assault on the Tree of Souls, Akwey was observed riding his direhorse into battle. As a courageous leader, Akwey took charge of the Na'vi riders, leading them into the fierce confrontation. For a period of time, they valiantly resisted the onslaught of the RDA raiding party. However, eventually, due to an overwhelming force of the enemy, the Na'vi warriors, including Akwey and another Na'vi were compelled to retreat from the battlefield.

Akwey, the leader of the Olangi Clan, managed to survive until the end of the battle. Unfortunately, a significant portion of his clan did not survive the conflict. In the aftermath of the battle, the surviving members of the Olangi clan found refuge and integration with the Omatikaya, merging their communities and forging a new unity.

When the humans returned to Pandora more then a decade later, Akwey supported Jake's decision to directly confront the RDA. He had come to the realization that the Na'vi's traditional methods of fighting were ineffective against the RDA. Additionally, Akwey disagreed with Yeyatley's decision to seek peace with the humans, as he was the only warrior who remaind in his clan after the Assault on the Tree of Souls several years earlier. He held the humans and their approach to maintaining peace responsible for the situation and agreed to join Jake in his fight.

Later on, Akwey ventures into outer space to aid in the battle against the RDA. Additionally, he pledges to take care of Neteyam on behalf of Jake after the latter manages to stowaway on the shuttle. Furthermore, Akwey and Ikeyni provide support to the Sully family as they flee from Frances Ardmore's team in the forest, engaging in combat against the RDA forces.
