The crossbow (Na'vi name: tskalep) is a powerful and complex weapon that is popular among Na'vi hunters. Though lacking the range of a bow, the crossbow's heavy bolts can cause severe damage at close range.

Materials and Construction[]

The Na'vi Crossbow consist of two primary parts, the bow itself and the gunstock.

The bow is fashioned from wood with its string made out of animal gut, whilst the stock is fashioned from a combination of animal bone and sculpted stone. A trigger mechanism is on the crossbow, which ensures that when a Na'vi pulls the string to be locked in place; that the weapon is ready to fire.[1]

As seen in the Game, upgraded Crossbows are more elaborate, with added animal and plant material being fashioned on the weapon to denote its rank.[1]

James Cameron's Avatar: The Game[]

In James Cameron's Avatar: The Game, the Crossbow functions somewhat akin to the Na'vi's equivalent of the Combat Shotgun, which is a short-ranged but extremely powerful ranged weapon that covers the Bow's longer ranged but less damage-per-shot. Whilst it is indeed powerful up-close, its awkward long reload time makes this weapon surprisingly poor against swarms of RDA troops, so it is best to use this against vehicles[1].
