Come One, Come All!

Spiffy title, huh? Anyways, yesterday Matias commissioned me to create a logo for the wiki (that you may have seen if you were browsing the new files section), but some users like Faern and even Matias still prefer the current logo. Ozzy, Matias and I came up with the idea to ask you guys what you think. However, this is not the voting section for any logos quite yet.

The real question is, what would you like to see in the new banner? We'd like you to leave your ideas and suggestions in the comments that you provide, and I'll do my best to incorporate all of them into the new logo design. Anything that you can dream up, I can probably do, so be creative and don't stick with just the normal stuff.

On voting day, I'll produce three prototype d…

The Limits of Human Comprehension

This is a topic that has bugged me for a long time now, and I still can't come to a satisfying conclusion.

Do humans have limits on their comprehension and understandability of their surroundings? If so, will we ever find out what they are?

By comprehension of our surroundings, I'm not simply speaking in terms of the Earth that we live on, but of the universe as well. From what we humans have come to understand, there may be underlying laws of nature that maintain the course of the universe. That's an immense achievement, if you take the time to really consider what it implies. This means that we can predict what the future may have in store for us (not necessarily to a high degree of accuracy), what the other side of the universe (assuming …

Extra-Terrestrial Life

Many of us see extra-terrestrial life as something far-fetched, and if it infact does exist, will not be within our grasp anytime soon.

I'm here to give my thoughts on the subject, which appear to be somewhat contradictory to the above statement.

I was watching something on Discovery Channel yesterday about the universe, and they had a segment on Jupiter's moon, Europa. It said that Europa does indeed have the capability to sustain life -- underneath its surface. The way that they explained it made actually a lot of sense. The fact that Europa orbits Saturn on an egg shaped path would compress it and stretch it slightly as it was affected by the extremely powerful gravitational forces of its father planet. This constant motion creates fricti…

The beauty of Earth, the unshakable course of the Universe

In honor to Earth day, I thought I may as well post my first blog on the wiki about Earth and our role in the universe.

We all have come to know and love the moon of Pandora. James Cameron created a completely new world for us to imagine, and the exciting possibilities that follow are immeasurable. The realization that such a world has even an extremely slight possibility of existing gives me a whole new perspective about the universe and what it entails. I don't think, however, that we necessarily need to create a new world in order to appreciate the beauty of life.

Look all around you, look at the beautiful mountains of Yosemite, the magesty of the Great Plains of the mid west United States, or the massive redwood forests in northern Calif…
