I have some very exciting news for all of us. When our group was in Seattle for the opening of the Avatar Exhibition on June 4th, we were all extremely disappointed that there was very little Avatar merchandise for sale in the museum gift shop. I filled out a survey from the gift shop and have just received this response:

Hi Linda, My name is Brian, and I'm the manager for the gift shops at EMP. I'm writing in regards to the survey you filled out recently on regarding your visit to our stores. I can certainly understand your frustration regarding a lack of Avatar merchandise.

There isn't a lot of licensed Avatar merchandise out there right now, but I can tell you that we currently have over two dozen custom Avatar exhibition items in production (mugs, magnets, bookmarks, art prints, journals, post cards, travel mugs, etc.) and we hope to them in the shops by mid-July. Unfortunately we were not able to have these items for the opening of the exhibit due to several factors, one of which being that we had to secure a licensing contract with Fox to produce the items. We do offer shipping services, so if you are interested in purchasing some Avatar items once they come in, we would be able to take your order over the phone and ship the items to you if you like.

I wrote him back, thanking him for his very detailed response and asking if the merchandise would be posted on a website.

Regarding the Avatar merchandise, unfortunately we do not have a website for the store so I don’t have a way to post pictures of the items anywhere. However, I could probably come up with a way to e-mail you pics directly, and then perhaps you can forward them to the rest of your group. By the way, I forgot to mention that we do have two additional Avatar women’s tees that came in last week. Please feel free to post the merchandise info on your site. Hopefully it comes by the time your next group comes on the 9th.

Yes, the lack of merchandise for opening was somewhat frustrating, but when dealing with licensed items (as the vast majority of our products are) these kind of things happen somewhat frequently. We get asked for items every day that simply don’t exist because no one has the license to make them.

So, it appears that we will soon have a source for Avatar goodies. YIPPEE! I will report back as soon as he sends me further information.
