I didn't expect a whole lot from the movie and I had little to no interest in seeing it but after my first viewing, I was pleasently surprised to find myself dragged into another world for two and a half hours and didn't want to leave that world when the credits rolled. The story itself was great and the world of Pandora was simply breathtaking. As for the cast, Sam Worthington was the perfect choice for Jake and was convincing and believable as a tired ex marine, Zoe Saldana gave what many consider the highlight performance as Neytiri though I liked Worthington's performance better since Jake is the main character and we spent a greater deal of time with him than we do anyone else, and Stephen Lang did a great job as the cold blooded Quaritch. Sigourney Weaver, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Michelle Rodriguez, Laz Alonso, CCH Pounder and Wes Studi were all terrific in their supporting roles. One thing however, has always left me thinking "Huh??" and that is the fact that the majority of the Na'vi characters were all played by african american actors and native american actors. I found that to be a very strange casting decision. Aside from that, Avatar is now a personal favourite of mine.
