The New 8 Minutes
I was thinking about the new 8 minutes of new footage in the re-released of Avatar. What new scenes and/or extension of scenes, what do you think would be in this new footage? any ideas?

So what was in the Extended Release? They didn't show it anywhere in NE Oklahoma...not even Tulsa, the regional Big City. (Marius pauses to think unkind thoughts about redness and necks.)

The Extended Release contains...
- The extended mating scene
- A scene depicting the Omaticaya burning bulldozers after the RDA knocked down the Tree of Voices
- The Sturmbeest hunt
- Tsu'tey's death scene (minus the bit where Wainfleet cuts his queue off)
- The school scene (the whole school sub plot is never elaborated on though)
- A few added seconds here and there, namely when they first arrive at Site 26
I think that's it, I might have forgotten a scene or two.

There will be a scene in Grace's school, and the matting scene is only just foreplay. Cameron told this to Herald Sun. And yes, the Sturnbeast will apear.

I'd like to see the Shack Massacre, the Sturmbeast Hunt, the Dream Hunt, the extended fight between Tsu'tey and Jake, Quaritches' Mutiny, the plant that Jetfire mentioned above, the Stingbat, the Avatars taking over, and Tsu'teys' Death. More images of a destroyed Earth is just depressing, Marius is right, I got the hint on the sex scene the first time, and losing Trudy was bad enough, don't make it sadder by making be in love and then dieing.

- Earth prologue
- mating scene
- maybe Sturmbeest hunt
- Tsu'tey's death
What I'd actually like to see:
- Grace explaining what happened at the school
- the Sturmbeest hunt
- Jake's Dreamquest
- Norm and Trudy
They can skip the mating scene asfar as I'm concerned. We got the idea the first time. De gustibus non est disputandum, I suppose.

I think it'll be the Sturmbeest hunt, The Earth shots including the bar fights, and Tsu'tey's death - at this point Cameron's already made a killing, and he's stated that that scene was the staff favourite, so he'll probably put it in even if it does trip the film up a little. He doesn't need it to be smooth anymore as he's made his billion - just awesome.

Ooh! I saw Toy Story 3 the other day. They didn't have that trailer. Dang.

I saw a trailer of the Avatar re-release when I went to see Toy Story 3 in 3D.
I caught a glimpse of the trailer where Jake Sully (Avatar form) is in what I believe is Grace's School. He was in the clothes he had on his first trip out with Grace and Norm so maybe there's an extended scene which takes place in Grace's school.

He added 8 minutes, bringing the total running time up to the maximum for an iMax theater.

While looking for the re-release date recently I ran across a site that said JC actually can put in about 10 minutes of new scene. Has something to do with the total running time. Can't find the site right now. Any one know about this?

Months ago, Cameron promised a novelization of a prequel, to fill in the blanks, so to speak...

@Dan090, the scenes in the extended version will probably be most of the scenes from the Script that aren't in the movie.

the sturmbeast hunt was the final stage of becoming a man. it was replaced with bonding with an ikran (banshee). it is unlikely that the sturmbeast hunt will be shown, unless as a more modest event

Maybe there could be a scene after the battle but before Jake becomes a Navi that could show what other Humans/Avatars got to stay behind, who fought in the battle but were on the Navi side. I think it would be cool if there was a prequel scene(s) that showed what happened before the movie, Quaritch's "first day" etc...

This is a late one but, more Jake learning the ways of the navi.

I'd like to see more of Parker (my favorite actually), the Sturmbeest herd, the Phlanxia plant, the Stingbat, and the infamous mating scene. Will America get over it already? Its biology. Every other Cameron film had it, so what's the big deal about this, cause they're aliens? Humans. We'll never learn.

There's also the scene where the other Avatars storm the control tower at Hell's Gate. That could be fun.

The scene where Quaritch and Selfridge argue about the right course of action is an interesting one, as it makes Quaritch seem more sadistic and ruthless. The scenes likely to be included are all good for character and story development, but I can understand why they were excluded from the final cut.

I think the dream hunt would be good to see as well. Seeing the school could make a connection with some other parts of the film too.

My guess:
- Earth scene(s)
- Short scene where inspects Grace's school (as seen in trailer)
- A short scene of exploring with Neytiri (as seen in trailer), likely an extended version of the scene where Jake touches the Fanlizard
- Sturmbeest Hunt (as seen in trailer)
- Dream Hunt would be fun but I doubt it
- A few more mating scene seconds
- Argument between Parker and Quaritch (A B-Roll video showed the filming)
- Tsu'tey death

I would go to watch Avatar in 3D again, but this one has 8 extra minutes!

hopefully someone will post the 8 minutes on their own on the web somewhere- im not going to go and watch the whole film again for 8 minutes :P
