A Fresh New Look

As the blog title may suggest, we have a possible new look coming to our beloved Avatar wiki.

Over the past few days, Faern, Matias and I have been working in absolute secrecy to bring you guys a brand new skin and layout to soothe your eyes. We essentially made an entirely new skin from scratch, so just about every little thing about the current skin has either been retrofitted to work with the new layout, or completely scrapped. Everything from the page width to the sidebar to the background pictures have been tweaked for the better (we think).

I'm always wondering why people cannot help themselves when they do not know how to do something. After all we live in the 21st century and have great tools like Google. Search for "make screenshot" or something like that and you know how to make screenshots. Upload them to the wiki and we will also know your screen resolution. ;)

Ozzy never, ever admit to Samsonius that you don't know how to do something or he will start making fun of you ~ IN PUBLIC PLACES.
Oh Samsonius have you been there all along? =P I promise, on my honor, that I will download Firefox tomorrow when my eyes are open. BTW, thanks for the link.=)

Ok, so I think the problems that you and Ghaziya are experiencing may be related to your use of IE. I recommend that you download Firefox, since I think that may be the source of the problem. I'm not positive, but it wouldn't hurt to at least try it.

Okay, I mainly use IE or Chrome, and the screen resolution depends on whether I'm editing from school or not, and I have no idea what the resolutions are, and I'm not sure how to check, sorry.

Well, I'm going to need some information first. First of all, I need to know what screen resolution you have, and then I need to know what internet browser that you're using.

@ Sean, mate, I'm sorry to tell you, but computery stuff isn't really a strong point of mine, so... how do you take screenshots? Sorry... :P
I've got the same problem as Ghaziya, mostly sidebar issues.

ah, I dislike this new skin. Paritcularly because the images of Jake and Neytiri narrow the strip for the actual articles down to about half the width of my screen (at least on my laptop). I much preferred the original skin. the user pages have been badly effected, because they also have the badge thing on the right, meaning that everyone's has gone really thin now.

Hi Samsonius ~ I read as far as "if you could take a few screenshots" and I immediately started to panic! LOL You knew I would, didn't you? Then I saw it directed to Ozzy and I breathed a huge sigh of relief. LOL You knew I would do that too, didn't you? Thanks, My Friends, I owe you guys one ~ put it on my tab please. =P

I'm going to have to consult with Faern on these issues, if you could take a few screenshots of your problems Ozzy (since I know I'll have to explain the whole screenshot process to Ghaziya if I ask her :P) that would be great. There are obviously a few bugs to be worked out yet, we may have to keep dynamic width within the confines of the main page and my home pages for the time being.

Grumble. Fuss. Complain. Hi Samsonius, will you be so kind as to add this "please fix" or "how do I fix") to your list: (1)the left sidebar takes up almost half of my screen; (2)all of the text is squished to a smaller width making it much more difficult to read (some images are squished together also);(3) the text is no longer centered and I have to scroll partially to the left to read it; (4) I have no right sidebar, just a big black space. So far, it appears that the sidebars are meant to be the main attraction instead of what is going on in-between. I know this has been a mega-amount of work for you and I appreciate your time and your talent. BTW, the "how do I fix" was just being polite because you KNOW I would probably make it worse. =/

Oookay, even worse... the Jake and Neytiri pictures finally loaded, but the Neytiri picture isn't to the right of the screen centre, it IS in the centre, and it's making stuff hard to read... is there any way that I can view the wiki with the old skin, or is that not possible?

Oookay, ummm... the new skin doesn't completely fit on my screen, and the middle part of the screem is all crammed and some stuff on the right hand side has been cut off. Also, the damned Jake and Neytiri pictures won't appear, courtesy of my dial-up connection. So... damn :(

Well, I would post the mix if a my video editor would do what i bloody want it to and b youtube wouldnt be a hypocrit, say i can upload up to 15 minute videos, and then clip it to one second because its over the limit. It's 10:47, and the forums said it would start clipping like that at bloody 10:59! I'm NOT happy.

They actually have a filter on them to darken them, it allows the edges of their forms to kind of "sink" into the background layer, and it gives the illusion that the characters are actually in the original source file. I tried it with no filter as well, and it looked kinda fake to me.

Good, i wasn't complaining obviousley, just saying because that means theres still time to vote for those who already haven't, but from the look of things it looks like the new skin is prefered to the old one.

Yeah, sorry about that. Actually Samsonius decided Monday 16th for him. =P That is in 5.20 hours. Anyway, the winner is obviously clear.
