"Vertical Take-Off and Landing" (abbreviation: VTOL) describes a type of aircraft that does not require a runway for take-off and landing. This includes tilt-rotor crafts such as the Scorpion or Samson and some fixed wing aircraft such as the Valkyrie Shuttle. All aircraft developed by the RDA to be used on Pandora have VTOL capabilities, as there are no runways available for more traditional fixed-wing aircrafts.^[1]
